
Strategic Youth Arts Partnerships Partnerships are increasingly becoming an important way of working, especially when resources are limited. They can be truly rewarding and produce innovative results. This panel will showcase some exciting youth arts partnerships between regional communities and Perth based arts organisations: Morawa Puppet Mania (Country Arts WA and the Morawa community), Audiosity (Geraldton Regional Art Gallery and Artrage) and Sounds of The Pilbara (WAM and the Karratha community). Panellists: Nigel Bird (WA Music Industry Association), Tonia Carslake (Morawa District High School), Rebecca Cockram (Country Arts WA), Mark Lennard (Geraldton Regional Art Gallery). TOP Arts Organisations: Businesses or Community Development Organisations? The Great Debate! Arts organisations have different roles to play in different communities but what is their central reason for being? With a panel of passionate people from different artforms and backgrounds, this should prove to be a lively and invigorating debate. Panellists: Paul Doquile (Denmark Arts), Sonya Dye (Bunbury Regional Art Galleries), Glenn Pilkington (Artsource), Shelagh Magadza (Perth International Arts Festival), Kathryn Sydney-Smith (Alcoa Australia). TOP Disasters Waiting to Happen! Not every arts event or project takes off smoothly (or sometimes at all) and this can happen for a variety of reasons, some avoidable and some not. These reasons will be explored by our panellists who will share their knowledge and experiences so that we can all learn from others. This will be an informative panel that is bound to elicit some interesting stories and responses. Panellists: Joanne Burges (Local Government Insurance Services), Jon Doust, David Doyle (DADAA WA). TOP A Barometer for Regional Arts The Minister for Culture and the Arts launched the policy Cultural Signposts - Directions for Arts and Culture in Regional Western Australia at the 2003 state conference in Karratha. A progress report on Cultural Signposts will be complete by mid 2007. This will identify strategies and initiatives that have been completed since 2003 and list those that require further action. Over the next few months, the Department of Culture and the Arts will be working with the Regional Services Committee to reassess the priority areas in the 2003 Action Plan and, potentially, develop a new Cultural Signposts Action Plan for 2007-2012, outlining revised priority areas.
